No-Fault Insurance at 40: The Experience in Florida

2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the first state (Massachusetts) to implement a no-fault law. Other states followed, including Florida in 1972. Since then, the law has undergone many changes. An Issue Brief by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies states that Florida’s changes did not keep up with cost-control mechanisms. This has resulted in escalating claims costs and higher premiums for drivers.
